Abstract

As Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice opens the first ever office for Women’s Empowerment as part of her office. The goal is to make the issue an important part of US diplomacy around the world. The new Women Leaders Working Group involves key women leaders from around the world who pledge to work together to assist women in political training; economic empowerment; and, access to justice. High-level diplomacy leads to a UN Security Council Resolution in June 2008 to protect women in war zones.
