Abstract
By introducing slot at an appropriate position on the rectangular patch, wider bandwidth has been realized. Multi-resonator design of rectangular microstrip antenna embedded with rectangular and half U-slot is reported that yields bandwidth of 280 MHz (28%). In this paper, a detailed resonant modal analysis is presented for the above multi-resonant, multiple slots cut rectangular microstrip antenna. The present study shows that combination of half U-slot and rectangular slot reduces the resonance frequencies of TM01 and TM11 modes with reference to TM10 mode and also optimizes the impedance at them, which exhibits loop formations inside the VSWR = 2 circle, showing a wider bandwidth. Slots also modify current distributions at those modes, to yield broadside pattern. Further based upon optimized reported design, formulations for various patch parameters for multi-resonant slot cut antenna are presented. Antennas designed using them at different resonant mode frequencies yield similar wideband response.
