Abstract

Technology is the last of the five major forces shaping higher education but technology itself is influenced and moulded by the other four forces. The concept of technological autocatalysis describes the role of technology in stimulating change but the reader is reminded of the fallacy of transformational thinking, and the risk of believing in deterministic technological change.
