Switching Angle and Power Loss Calculation for THD Minimization in CHB-Multilevel Inverter Using DEA

Voltage source multilevel inverter has acquired extensive applications in industries. They have the advantages of higher output voltage with lower switching frequencies, less THD for increased level. The evaluation of multilevel inverter loss is a trivial task due to the problem of unequal current sharing among the switches for different levels. This paper applies differential evolution algorithm (DEA) to evaluate the losses of switches of CHB-multilevel inverter including conduction and switching loss with IGBT as the switch. It optimizes the switching angle as well as the modulation index and evaluates the losses across the switch for minimum THD.
