Characterization and Hydrocarbon Detection of Anomalous Bodies in Block B of South Turgay Basin

The Jurassic formation in Block B of South Turgay Basin is located in the gentle slope zone of the rifted lake basin where structural traps are not developed, so it is important for explorers to find litho-stratigraphic traps. The drilling results show that lithological reservoirs are mainly in the Jurassic system where the oil and gas show is good and the main control factor of reservoir formation is the reliability of lithological traps. The sedimentary characteristics of Jurassic system in this area show that reservoirs with sands up-dip pinch-out in front of slope zone and with isolated sands in underwater distributary channels are separately formed in formation Doshan and Akshabulak in the Middle Jurassic. The spatial distribution and oil-bearing properties of the anomalous bodies in Doshan formation are described by the techniques of automatic interpretation based on the global stratigraphic framework model, sub-volume coherence, S-Transform of spectral decomposition and low-frequency enhancement. The comprehensive analysis of accumulation conditions shows that the area of anomalous bodies in Doshan formation with high gas-bearing probability and exploration potential is about 11.27 km2, and the amount of forecasting natural gas reserves is up to 5.5 billion m3. High-yield gas flow is gotten in Doshan formation of well B-4. The success of drilling has showed the great potential on exploration of lithological reservoirs in Block B.
