In this chapter, we discuss the basic concepts of resonance in electrical circuits, and its characterization, and illustrate its application by an example. Several problems have been added at the end for the students to work out. Do work them out.

Notes

  1. 1.

As a matter of notations, we shall use small i or v for instantaneous value, subscript m for maximum value, capital I or V for phasor representation, and |I| or |V| for the rms value.

  2. 2.

Equation 11.11 can also be written as V C  = V g /(j o CR). Obviously, the Q of the series RC circuit at resonance is l/( o CR), in contrast to Eq. 11.3 for a parallel RC circuit (Problem 2).
