Abstract

Agriculture is a vital development tool for achieving Millennium Development Goal 1 which calls for halving the number of people who are globally suffering from extreme poverty and hunger. The future of agriculture is also intrinsically linked to the need for better stewardship of natural resources. This chapter examines how open and distance non-formal education can assist the many millions in the developing countries who are struggling as subsistence farmers against a background of global warming and the need for sustainability.
