Abstract

The pile settlement in soft soils can sustain for several decades, owing to the creep behavior of soft soils around the pile. This paper put forward a nonlinear method to analyze the long-term settlement of pile groups in layered soft clay soils. This approach uses the load transfer (t-z) model to describe the pile-soil interaction by the Burgers model distributed along the pile shaft and the pile base. The advantage is that it can calculate the long-term settlement of pile groups with rigid or flexible high cap. A program named CTSP (Calculating Time-dependent Settlement of Pile foundation) has been developed to analyze the long-term settlement of two pile groups in layered soft clay soils. Comparisons of the calculations and the measurements were presented to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach.
