Abstract
As the readers of this text know, both Japanese life expectancy and healthy life expectancy are first in the world as of World Health Statistics 2016 released by the World Health Organization (WHO 2016). However, did you know that the difference between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy is ten or more years? While the 2013 life expectancy for males was 80.21, the healthy life expectancy was 71.19, a difference of 9.02 years. In women, life expectancy was 86.61, with a healthy life expectancy of 74.21, or a difference of 12.40 years (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare 2013).
