Abstract

Hydrocephalus is defined as disproportionate increase in the amount of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cranium resulting from imbalance between the CSF production, absorption, and obstruction to its flow. Congenital obstructive hydrocephalus is due to obstruction in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. The management includes pharmacotherapy, shunt surgery, and endoscopic third ventriculostomy. There is a high mortality in antenatally diagnosed hydrocephalus. Only one third of babies can expect to have normal IQ.
