Abstract
Iwate University has been comprehensively addressing the reconstruction in disaster-afflicted areas, developing organizations and connecting the local needs with seeds in the university since the emergency and recovery phase. The situation with reconstruction issues in the Sanriku coastal area is, in a way, a representation of Japan. The experiences and findings that the university gained in working for the reconstruction can be shared worldwide. The development of the region and that of the university can keep abreast with each other. To think globally and to act locally for the region and the communities is the direction and role of the University in the future.
