Abstract
This chapter is about battered Indo-Fijian women who did not pen their own histories. They were not able to tell their stories to anyone but themselves because they were powerless by virtue of their gender, race, and class; they were in a situation not unlike that of the indentured women of the colonial era. The expectation is that this exploratory study will contribute to the stock of research in Fiji on violence against women by their husbands/partners. This study which utilized the World Health Organization instrument with extensive open-ended questions and probing, enabled thirty battered Indo-Fijian women to tell their stories about their experiences through narratives; that is, they were able to tell how and when the spousal violence occurred, and also describe the context and meaning of the violence for them.
