Abstract

In his book Tradition, Edward Shils seems to be of the opinion that everything we see today is rooted in tradition; the new is only a contemporary rehash or transformation of the old. If we begin with this notion, it seems that we ought not to theorize modernization of any kind with a polarized framework. This is especially true when we study Chinese people’s view on sex.
