Abstract

An essential element of pre-service teachers’ developing sense of self as a teacher, is attributed to their array of practical teaching experiences. Providing an experience that is unfamiliar compared to past experiences enables a broader scope for reflection of what teaching means to their current and future ideals and teaching. Learning about self and teaching practice is presented in the narrative in this chapter, which illustrates pre-service teachers’ awareness of their own learning when participating in and contributing to community in the Cook Islands.
