Abstract
Chinese immigrants and their descendants have dominated the economic sector in the Kingdom of Cambodia for generations. This chapter analyzes Chinese business characteristics and its role in the Cambodian economy across different socio-political contexts. Chinese people have migrated to Cambodia since the Angkor Era and integrated into Khmer culture with business recognized as a characteristic of “Chineseness”. They have dominated the economic classes during all regimes except for the Khmer Rouge period from 1975–1979. Contemporary Chinese Khmer families engage in business, ranging from small family owned ones to large corporations representing all top 10 prominent business tycoons.
