Abstract

The Quasi-Zenith Satellite System is developed by SPRAC of Japan. It is a regional satellite navigation and augmentation system. In this contribution, we evaluated and analyzed the accuracy, availability and reliability of GPS aided with QZSS in Japan area from aspects of constellation structure and positioning performance based on measured data. The results show that: at different cut-off angle, the constellation structures of GPS aided with QZSS are better than that of GPS-only; meanwhile the positioning performance of GPS aided with QZSS is also better than that of GPS-only; furthermore, this advantage is more obvious under a high cut-off elevation angle condition. Japan is a country of dense buildings in the city and numerous mountains in the wild. The good performance of GPS aided with QZSS at higher cut-off angle overcomes the limitation of this observation environment. The mode of GPS aided with QZSS would improve the positioning accuracy, availability and reliability of satellite navigation systems dramatically in Japan area.
