Abstract

Arthritis of the interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints of thumb is caused by degenerative, rheumatism, trauma, etc. and causes pain, instability, and deformity. When conservative treatment such as medication, splinting, and steroid injection is ineffective, arthritis can be treated with synovectomy, tendon reconstruction, arthroplasty, and arthrodesis. This chapter provides an overview and treatment of arthritis of the interphalangeal joint (IPJ) and metacarpophalangeal joints (MPJ) of the thumb.
