Abstract

We present indications, strategies, and surgical tips of microsurgical replantation and revascularization of the thumb based on more than 200 cases at W hospital last 10 years. Replantation and revascularization of the thumb is performed to treat any level, any type of injury, and any age of amputation of the thumb. Replantation technique is described in special conditions of amputations at very distal level, avulsion and degloved amputation, and segmental amputation. Transpositional replantation of the thumb refers to the transposition and replantation of any digit to the thumb which plays a more significant role in the function of the hand. Rehabilitation, secondary procedures, and outcomes are reviewed.
