Abstract

Microstrip array antennas are gaining the attention in research due to the benefits of improvement in gain and directive characteristics. Feed system pertaining to the microstrip array antennas is interesting domain. In this paper, the design of an array antenna is discussed with the objectives of improving the gain along with the achievement of ultra-wideband operating bandwidth. Series feed, partial ground, and stepped truncated patch are used in the array for obtaining desired characteristics. Design of antenna carried out with microstrip line and CPW feed. The spectral characteristics namely reflection loss, VSWR and radiation characteristics in terms of the peak gain as well as radiation patterns are studied which are obtained by 3D modeling of the array structures and the simulation carried out in ANSYS HFSS 15.0.
