Abstract

In the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) most of the research is in the direction of saving energy and increasing the lifetime of wireless Sensor Networks. One of the ways by which we can save energy is by placing the nodes in an intelligent manner. In this paper, we propose a novel node deployment scheme where the nodes are first placed in a circular form and then in the next round we deploy the nodes in the form of a pentagon called penta circular node placement or hexagon called hexa circular node placement so that the whole area from where information has to be collected will be covered with minimum number of nodes. The performance of this novel node placement strategy is tested for energy consumption and network lifetime. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method gives better performance in terms of Delay Packet Delivery ratio and Energy consumption in comparison with existing methods.
