    The Pan-Pond ceremony was an ancient custom for Confucius’s students. In the courtyard of the Confucius Temple, there is a half-moon shaped pond called the Pan Pond. Students must go across the bridge over the pond to reach the teacher. It later became a tradition for students to cross the pond before starting school.
