Social responsibility is a fundamental principle to the University of São Paulo (USP). The University aims at providing higher education of excellence status to the most underserved communities. Social-Inclusion Programs are carried out in order to increase the number of students coming from public schools. Concerned about inequality stemming from the ethnic relations in the country, the University of São Paulo has developed more egalitarian University enrollment means. The promotion of culture and university extension is one of the University missions. The Pro-Rectory of Culture and University Extension seeks, through the multiple actions pointed out in this chapter, to establish programs and agencies to give visibility to art and culture, as well as to promote changes in the field of social equality, always with the objective of contributing to the development of the country.
