Abstract

Since 2014, the development of China’s microblog was affected by WeChat and other entirely a mobile network based new micro-communication platforms. Because Tencent began to shift its focus from WeChat to micro-video and microblog in its overall development strategy, Sina Weibo basically occupied a dominant position in the Chinese microblog landscape. The microblog user growth slowed down on the whole, and the influence of the “Big Vs” as an outlet for public opinion also reduced. Nevertheless, after eight years of development, microblog has become a relatively mature media app in China’s new media communication landscape with unique media properties and a strong ability to disseminate public opinion.
