Abstract

Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy has gained significant momentum in recent years with the aim of minimizing postoperative morbidity as well as enhancing the recovery of the donors. Laparoscopic right donor nephrectomy continues to be performed less often despite increased uptake of laparoscopy in recent years. This has been due to combination of factors, which includes short length of the right renal vein, technical challenge and the poor graft survival in the early years.

In this chapter we briefly examine the issues regarding laparoscopic right donor nephrectomies and describe a step-by-step approach in performing laparoscopic transperitoneal right donor nephrectomy.
