Abstract

The Roux en Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) is widely considered the gold standard in bariatric surgery; achieving superior weight-loss with acceptable complication rates [1]. It has generally been considered as a reference bariatric surgical procedure when comparing the outcomes of a new procedure. RYGB is also a metabolic procedure as it results in significant improvements of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia and sleep apnea, along with a subsequent reduction in overall mortality. Though the technique is now well defined, controversies continue to exist at certain aspects of the configuration [2].
