Abstract
The original theory of capillarity was developed by Thomas Young (1773–1829) and Pierre Simon de Laplace (1749–1827). It is Laplace who proposed the celebrated equation of capillarity. In both cases this theory was conceived as a Newtonian like theory involving an inverse-square law of interaction between “particles”.
