Abstract
Solid waste management (SWM) remains a major challenge for Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, which still seems far from a solution. In Jakarta, poor SWM has negative implications for the public health, economy, and environment of the city. Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia, had faced similar problems in the past. However, it has been able to significantly improve its SWM.
