Potentially Important Jute Geotextiles

Part of the book series: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering ((DGE))

Abstract

Jute like all other natural fibers lacks uniformity in texture and properties. Jute Geotextiles (JGT) thus vary in quality calling for identification of the precise fabric types for different applications. As there could be a range of JGT for a particular application, it is necessary to zero in on potentially important JGT for each application type for facilitating large-scale use. This will result in ease of manufacture and economization of cost of the fabric.

The chapter contains logical exposition of the optimization exercise in identifying the potentially important JGT out of several for specific application. It also contains comparison of properties of JGT and its man-made counterpart in a tabular form.
