Abstract
In this chapter, the introduction to power quality, standards and parallel power quality compensators are discussed. In Sects. 1.1–1.3, the overview of the power quality issues and the related international standards are reviewed. Then the detailed description of current quality issues are discussed in Sect. 1.4. After that, the power quality measurement results in Macau are reported in Sect. 1.5, which reveals three main current quality problems: reactive power, current harmonics and neutral current existed in the distribution power network. In order to relax those problems, different shunt power quality compensators: Capacitor Bank (CB), Passive Power Filter (PPF), Active Power Filter (APF) and Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) can be adopted and their functionalities, pros and cons are also introduced in Sect. 1.6.
