Abstract

The hemodialysis process requires a dialysis machine, a dialyzer, dialysate, and blood circuit. The process also include anticoagulation, heparin rinsing, priming, obtaining vascular access, cannulation (needling), monitoring parameters (body weight, vital signs, pressure monitoring) during and after hemodialysis. The parameters commonly used during chronic hemodialysis prescription are ultrafiltration, dialysis time, dialysis frequency, dialysate sodium, potassium, calcium, bicarbonate, magnesium, temperature, glucose, the type of dialyzer, blood flow rate, dialysate flow rate. Prescriptions in hemodialysis may require a comprehensive and individualized approach based on medications, laboratory test findings, and patient conditions.
