Abstract
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is a complex region defined by its distinctive set of political, economical, and social forces. This book examines higher education in this region. Taking on a South-South perspective, higher education potentials of six MENA countries — Egypt, Iran, Libya, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia — are examined. As higher education does not perpetuate in isolation, the book chapters delineate each country’s political, economic, and social landscapes, providing context to their individual higher education settings. The Introduction chapter reveals a brief history of MENA’s higher education as a whole. It briefly introduces the country chapters, previewing the more in-depth analyses in the following chapters.
