The continual development, invention and refinement of sensors has played a large role in their adoption for the sports environment to date and is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. This development is under pinned by a number of trends. These trends include miniaturisation, the increased metrification of sport, the rise of wearables as consumer products, market forces, technology convergence and their wider utility in related disciplines such as health.
