Abstract
The present book investigates the higher education quality assurance system and its impact on institutional transformation in China. This chapter elucidates the higher education quality assurance system in China. The first part of the chapter presents the context in which quality assurance schemes emerged in China. The evolution and status quo of Chinese higher education quality assurance system, both external and internal, are then portrayed. Quality Assessment of Undergraduate Education (QAUE) and Subject Evaluation, two of the most important national quality assessment schemes in China, are interpreted in detail in the next part of the chapter. The specific approaches to evaluation and the intended impact of the QAUE and the Subject Evaluation are shown, respectively. The previous impact studies on these two quality assessment schemes are reviewed as well.
