Robust Visual Communication System in Mobile Environments

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a visual communication system based on the LCD luminescence of a mobile device diplay, one robust to noise in a mobile device environment. The proposed system consists of three parts: the encoding algorithm, the mobile device detection module, and the decoding algorithm. When the user inputs digital data such as text or numbers, the sender section converts the digital data into color-coded images using a previously prepared encoding algorithm. The receiver section detects these color-coded images using a camera, extracts the color values, and decodes them into the original digital data. We tested the data transfer accuracy and implemented a program that runs on mobile devices to show that this system can work in real situations.
