Abstract

For population inferences, a complete count of the population would be desirable. Time and resource usually do not permit this. So we go for sampling. For population inferences to be valid, sampling is to be done complying with the theoretical requirements. The theories are explained. Advantages of sampling and prior survey considerations are explained. Principal steps involved in the choice of sample size are mentioned. Commonly used sampling methods dealing with simple random sampling, systematic sampling, cluster sampling, and stratified random sampling are explained.
