Abstract

A dual-band rectangular antenna with sideway extension at top and bottom having applications in WLAN and WiMAX is discussed in this paper. The designed antenna composed of a rectangular patch with wider sideway extension at bottom and smaller sideway extension at top. Antenna is designed and simulated using CST microwave studio software. The design parameters are selected to achieve a dual resonance at 5.8 and 3.30 GHz having applications in WLAN and WiMax. The first band (3.30 GHz) is controlled by the upper sideway extension of the antenna while the lower sideway extension controls the second resonating band (5.8 GHz). The simulated results show that the antenna has the bandwidths of 174 MHz (5726–5900 MHz) and 327 MHz (3127–3454 MHz) covering WLAN at the 5.8 GHz bands and WiMAX in the 3.30 GHz bands, respectively.
