Abstract
Mark Twain, in the early 1870s, wanted as little as possible to do with speculators. He considered most of them “whores and scrubs.” Twain preferred to lecture in established courses, especially ones that offered season tickets. “Trenton is nothing but private speculation—no association,” he wrote Redpath.
