Abstract

I grew up in a stimulating learning environment on a small island in Eastern Canada. Mum was an English teacher, and Dad was both farmer and businessman. Together, they modelled learning in almost every avenue of my life. From a very young age I was encouraged in academics, in agriculture, in athletics, and in music. I saw my parents actively engaged in community development and learned from them the importance of responsible citizenship.
