Abstract
Trends in the learning and teaching of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines increasingly focus on the need for cross-disciplinary, industry-related approaches that maximise opportunities for future employment and lifelong learning (Kuenzi, 2008). The ability and capacity of STEM academic staff to engage in cross-disciplinary, facilitated learning is currently compromised by skill shortages, lack of teacher confidence, technological change, lack of role modelling and discipline-specific teaching demands of tertiary structures (Tytler, 2007).
