Abstract
For the past century, education scholars, teachers, and politicians have attempted to respectively theorize, practice, and institutionalize descriptions of democracy. Today, however, modern cultural and societal realities create special challenges for taking up this work. The ways in which mobile technologies have penetrated all aspects of life have altered the ways in which we associate with each other; while these technologies have made business more efficient and communication between people easier, technology provides us with a number of paradoxes in terms of the ways we associate with others.
