Abstract

It was the first day of practice, the Monday after Thanksgiving. There was nothing like it. We’d waited all spring, summer, and fall for this day to arrive. We would now be able to prove to everyone how good we were. We all showed up with our Converse All-Star high white canvas sneakers, costing us $8.95 at Charlie’s Sports Store. One pair would last the whole season, as long as we were only playing inside. During the summer, when we were playing at the parks all day and night, I’d go through a pair every 10 days. It got pretty expensive.
