Abstract
College loves selectively. Some identities are not as welcome as others. Christian Clown, boxer, non-standard dialect speaker, silent student: these are all identities I have come across that are not embraced by the secular, historically upper middle class institution of college. Still other aspects of identities are not prioritized by college, including being a parent, being a caretaker of a family member, or needing to work many hours.
