Abstract

In my early years of teaching, the term ‘student engagement’ was not commonly used and as a new and inexperienced teacher I thought that if I was able to keep students busy, working and looking productive, then I was doing a good job. As long as they were occupied and happy I thought I was teaching well. However, in time I realized that being busy wasn’t always leading to rich learning.
