Abstract
Empire State College was created over 40 years ago as a nontraditional institution dedicated to the education of those students not adequately served by institutions of the State University of New York (SUNY), of which it is a part. Various processes and practices that differed from more conventional campus approaches were part of the initial design and continue to be utilized at the College to effectively serve its mainly adult student body.
