Abstract
Hans-Jürgen Syberberg was born on December 8, 1935, in Nossendorf, Pomerania, a region he would later characterize as the homeland of both the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich and the iron chancellor of German unification, Otto von Bismarck.
