Creative Cultures

  • Chapter
The Road to Independence

Abstract

We have explored what creativity means for individuals, but when does a culture become creative? Looking briefly through European history, one can identify periods of time when communities can be said to be more intellectually active than before and after, such as the time of the Renaissance in the 16th and 17th centuries, or the Enlightenment in the late 17th and 18th centuries.
