Abstract
Knowledge has become a fundamental component of economic and social development. The ability of a society to produce, select, adapt, commercialize, and use knowledge is critical for sustained economic growth and improved living standards (World Bank, 1999). In this context, tertiary education plays an essential role in building a strong human capital base and contributing to an efficient national innovation system.
