Abstract

“Let’s hope that ball in Times Square is the only thing that crashes at midnight,” retired mathematician Joe says. He is the kindest of men. It is five o’clock. Ten neighbors gather at Bob and Martha’s for their annual New Year Eve’s party. This is the only time when we are all together under the same roof. I chat with my neighbors when I see them, but mostly Ernest and I keep to ourselves.
