Abstract

Despite the large number of Chinese students in American science and engineering programs, they are largely segregated from their American peers. A lack of common understanding and common interests between Chinese and American students have been reported by many scholars in the past two decades. Science and engineering doctoral programs in the U.S. have a unique situation: Some of these programs enroll a high percentage of Chinese students. For example, over 50 percent of some computer science departments’ students were Chinese.
