Holistic Perspectives on Gifted Education for the 21st Century

  • Chapter
Giftedness and Talent in the 21st Century

Part of the book series: Advances in Creativity and Giftedness ((ACAG,volume 10))

Abstract

In many European countries, such as Finland, education aims to support the development of the whole person rather than merely the cognitive domain. This kind of education acknowledges the importance of social and affective domains in student development, including their emotional and spiritual concerns (Tirri, 2011a). For last two decades the Finnish school system has been very successful in international comparative studies on student achievements (PISA), most recently in 2012, in mathematics, science and reading achievements.
